Everything is all back together and it’s running perfectly! Just a couple of small items to clean it up.
The NB exhaust doesn’t line up with the NA exhaust location so I’m extending the resonator pipe to connect it.
My JDM square top intake manifold was also delivered, I was hoping it would be here before I started the swap but at least it’s here. Gonna clean it up, paint it, and then throw it in the car next week.

That's a funny looking LS.

Was this your first engine swap? If so how would you compare what’s involved in this swap to other ones you have completed? Mostly asking because I’m curious how hard it would be to swap my redblock with another one

yellow lettering is the best part (for me as a viewer and not a driver)

Color me impressed. Nice work!

Very nice. I wonder how the BP-4W reacts to having an AFM in its intake tract instead of a MAF. I'll keep an eye out for your updates when you get it on the road.

Its running using the 1.6 ECU, so it is expecting the AFM signal. I have an aftermarket ECU ready to go in which will replace the AFM with an IAT.

First ever swap. Not super difficult, but again, it was mostly plug and play since the 91 and 99 engines use the same mounts and the sensors from the 1.6 all move over to the 1.8. The Flyin Miata guide is really comprehensive

Congrats!

Do they make that available for free? Still sounds very straightforward and rewarding

I know about the 1.6 ECU. I only mention this because the MAF presents an insignificant amount o
f air flow resistance in the intake tract, unlike the AFM’s paddle. When I had a BG Protégé having the AFM meant that I had to avoid sudden throttle inputs
since they caused the engine to run lean momentarily as
it took time for the AFM to register the air flow change. The AFM was probably a bit sticky, but still...

Had to follow up on this comment. I finally got the aftermarket ECU into the car and tuned. Removing the MAF and having a proper tune is a night and day difference . You can really feel that the BP4W is unleashed in the new setup.
